About Us

Our Journey

Bluestone Woodwork was originally conceived as CAM Shop Services by Chris Johnstone, a seasoned professional with a deep love for carpentry and woodworking. With years of experience in construction and renovation, Chris and the founding team set out to offer high-quality, custom pieces and installations that were both functional and beautiful. From bespoke furniture to intricate art pieces and architectural installations, our team quickly gained recognition for transforming spaces in both private homes and public venues.

In 2022, Bo Morin joined the team with a professional background in software engineering, management, and an interest in woodworking. Taking on the challenge of CNC engineering allowed Bo to combine their love of creative problem-solving with making and building. In 2024, Bo took over the role of Digital Fabrication Project Manager.

In 2024, Adam Bean, a former conservation biologist with professional woodworking experience, became the Carpentry and Millwork Project Manager. Adam’s attention to detail, coupled with his dedication to quality craftsmanship, has been a key driver in further enhancing the quality and beauty of our projects.

A New Chapter: Bluestone Woodwork

As we continue to evolve, a significant milestone occurred with the retirement of several of our original owners, who have passed on their ownership stakes to Bo and Adam. Chris Johnstone remains a vital part of the team as our Founder and Fabrication Expert, ensuring that the legacy of craftsmanship and innovation lives on.

To mark this new era, we chose the name Bluestone Woodwork, a tribute to the strong foundation laid by our founders and an homage to the rich history of our local area. Bluestone, the official state rock of Washington, D.C., has long been used in the construction of some of the region’s most iconic buildings and monuments. It symbolizes strength, durability, and the enduring craftsmanship we pride ourselves on.

With a fresh vision and strong leadership, we’re excited to continue expanding our passion for craftsmanship to more homes, businesses, and public spaces throughout the greater D.C. area. We look forward to collaborating with you to create something truly exceptional.
